Klassen Fine Woodworking

All are Welcome
No Previous Experience Necessary

Lloyd has been a carpenter and fine woodworker for over 30 years.
He wants to make his knowledge and experience available to you.

Do you want to be able to transform your house
into a visually pleasing home?

Do you want to install trim yourself but not sure where to start?

Have you tried installing trim but feel a bit stuck -
unsure how to proceed?

Do you love doing things yourself and
want to get better results?

Become Familiar with the Terminology

Trim is a general term that covers all the different types of finish work. Casing, apron, crown moulding, jamb and baseboard are a few of the many terms that apply to the specific function of a piece of trim.

The Cope Joint

Like the dovetail joint in woodworking, the cope joint in finish work is the cat's meow, but it can be intimidating for the beginner.

The cope joint is better than the mitre joint for baseboards, it's easier to fit, avoids problems with wall angles and looks better!

Learn to cut a cope joint and with practice you will soon see that it is much easier and better than a mitre joint when installing baseboards - especially in an old house where nothing is square!

Learn Tips and Tricks

Learn how to mark, measure and cut when dealing with walls that are not square.

Trim out a Window

Learn how to install extension jambs, interior window sill (known as the stool) and casing for windows and doors. Learn basic techniques that can be applied to any window or door style.

Crown Moulding

Learn simple tricks for cutting crown moulding!

Install an Interior Door

A house is full of doors, and eventually some need replacing, especially when renovating. Learn how to install an interior door so that it is plumb, square and opens and closes properly.
